2008 Club Championships
Matches have been allocated a time and date. If you cannot play at that time/date
it is up to you to contact your opponent to reschedule (except for Finals,
everyone must be available on Saturday 6th September if they reach the finals!).
All Championship matches, Plate matches, and any Handicap matches where the two
opponents/teams have the same handicap, shall double as Ladder matches only if
both players/teams are already on the relevant Ladder. Anyone/team who
reaches the semi-final or better in one of the five main Championships and is
not already on the relevant Ladder can request to be placed on it, but will
not be placed on any ladders automatically.

Handicap Scoring System
· The handicap points are per set and are located to the left of your name on the draw sheets (not to be confused with the participant numbers on the non-handicap draws!).
· Points should be netted off against each other. For example, if player A has a handicap of 5 and player B has a handicap of 8, then in a match between the two, player B will have three free points per set, while player A has none.
· If players X and Y both have the same handicap, then a match between the two would just be a straight match played in the normal way with no free points for either player. Such matches will double as Ladder Matches if both competitors/teams are already on the relevant Ladder.
· You cannot use your free points to win game points. You can use them to save game points or to set them up (e.g. if you have four points left to take and are at 30 all, you can use one point to go 40-30 up, you cannot use two points to win the game).
· Unused points do not carry forward to the next set.
Court Usage
As members are aware, the Club Championships and Handicap events are taking place as usual up until the At Home Finals Day on Saturday 6th September. In order to keep things running smoothly the following is in force with regards to courts usage:
League Matches have priority on the courts at all times if needed.
Club Championship/Handicap matches have priority over all other matches (except League), regardless as to when the match was originally scheduled for (i.e. rescheduled matches still have priority).
Thursday 21st August is a Social Tennis night to introduce new members who have joined over the last several months to everyone else. No other matches can be guaranteed a court on that night as all courts will be provided for the social tennis. Any Championship/Handicap matches scheduled for this night should be rescheduled by the participants involved.
If other members are waiting to use the courts, then any matches that are not League/Championship/Handicap are subject to the following:
Doubles matches should last no longer than 1½ hours.
Singles matches should offer to double up to make a doubles match.
Singles matches should last no longer than 1 hour.
The Tennis Committee hopes that this will allow the Championship matches to get played in a timely manner, while still facilitating members in arranging their own non-competitive games.
