LCC Ladder Challenge Rules

General

-         Ladder matches are the best of 3 sets, with a tie-break to be played at 6 games all in all sets.

-         All competitive matches (for example Club Championships, external tournaments) will count as ladder matches if both participants are already on the relevant ladder. Handicap events will not count unless both participants have the same handicap.

-         You cannot challenge the same opponent again within a 2-week period, and must play someone else on the ladder (as challenger or challenged) before you can challenge the same person a second time.  The only exception being that a challenged player who loses may challenge for a rematch once the two week period has passed without playing someone else.

-         A ladder committee meets about once a month and reserves the right to make whatever changes to the rules and the ladders that it deems appropriate.

Who can you challenge?

-         In the Top 10 (Blue Section), you may challenge up a maximum of 3 places.

-         Between positions 11 and 25 (Green Section), you may challenge up a maximum of 5 places, but you may not challenge any higher than 8th place even if higher positions are within 5 places of you.

-         From position 26 down (Red Section), you may challenge up a maximum of 10 places, but you may not challenge any higher than 21st place even if higher positions are within 10 places of you.

Wildcard Challenges

-         Members not on a ladder may make one wildcard (i.e. challenge any position) challenge to get onto the ladder (in addition to the annual wildcard mentioned below).  If they win they will enter at the position of the beaten player, if they lose they will enter at the bottom.  This should be indicated by putting an (N) next to your name on the result sheet, and the result must be entered either way!

-         All members may make one wildcard challenge per calendar year.  This should be indicated by putting a (W) next to your name on the result sheet.

Procedures

-         Once a challenge is made, the challenged person should make all efforts to play the match within 2 weeks.

-         Results must be entered on the results sheet (score is not necessary), and the ladder will be updated at least once per fortnight.  The challenger is responsible for entering the results, regardless as to which participant won, but both participants should check that a result has been entered and enter one if it hasn’t already been done.
